Police arrested three people Tuesday afternoon in connection with a shooting in Queens Mondaynight that wounded two people, including a young girl.
Tomas Hirro, 19, Wilson Santano, 16, and Antonio Rosario, 16, were charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to police, two groups of men were arguing in front of 1712 Himrod Street in Ridgewood shortly before 9:30 p.m., when shots were fired.
A five-year-old girl was shot in the back, apparently by a stray bullet. Police say she had been walking with her father when she was hit.
A 27-year-old man was shot in the leg. Police believe he was involved in the dispute.
Both victims were in stable condition Tuesday.
Police Commission Ray Kelly said the shooting is believed to be gang related.
"We believe this was a gang-related incident, two groups of approximately 10 individuals each," said Kelly. "The so-called Blood members were coming down the street and the Trinitario group was sitting on the stoop. And this was some sort of gang encounter. Shots were fired. And, as I say, we hope to make more arrests on this matter."
The landlord at 1712, where detectives brought in a canine unit to sniff out whether one or more of the suspects lives in the building, says fights have been breaking out a lot lately.
"It's a big problem over here, in this area," said the landlord. "This street's too much trouble."
Local residents said they are afraid for the safety of their kids.
"I'm going to be thinking twice about being outside. Because that little girl got shot and she was probably just playing outside," said the local. "It's scary; it really is."
"That's so scary because I have a daughter, too and, there are a lot of kids here, always playing," said another.
According to the NYPD, shootings are down more than 30 percent over the last year in the 104th Precinct, which includes the neighborhood of the shooting.
