A day after being arrested in Nebraska on drunk driving charges, Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain apologized Sunday to his fans for an "error in judgment."

A state police spokeswoman says the 23 year old was stopped for speeding near his hometown of Lincoln early Saturday morning.

She says Chamberlain was taken to a nearby detox center as part of normal procedure, and is being held there on charges of driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol, and speeding.

"I want to apologize to the New York Yankees and the fans for
an error in judgment and for putting myself in a difficult
situation," Chamberlain said in a statement released today by his agent. I intend to properly resolve this situation, and
do not intend to be in such a situation again. My goal is to focus
on pitching for the Yankees in the 2009 season."

Official charges could be filed Monday.

As of Sunday evening, there was no comment from the Yankees.
