The demolition work on Shea Stadium is now officially underway.

Since the Mets season ended more than two weeks ago, everything that can be salvaged has been removed from the stadium in preparation for the demolition.

Many of the items, including the seats, are being sold or auctioned off.

The process of demolishing the stadium began at midnight, with work continuing throughout the day.

There will not be an implosion or a wrecking ball, but rather a dismantling of the stadium section by section.

The Mets are scheduled to open next season in their new home, Citi Field.
