Police investigated Friday whether a broken public housing elevator played a part in the death of a Brooklyn newborn.

Police responded to the 14th floor of a Brownsville housing project, where an 11-day-old baby was in cardiac arrest when officers tried to rush him to the hospital.

Law enforcement sources said the elevator stopped on the eighth floor and did not move.

They said after twenty seconds, officers forced the door open and ran the rest of the way down the stairs.

Tenants said the elevators are a constant problem for them.

"A lot of people is getting stuck in the elevator. It's like every other two weeks or every other week someone is getting stuck in the elevator," said a resident.

"It's ridiculous how they treat our building. Only in life and death do they come and fix the elevator. If it wasn't life and death, the elevator’s probably going to be broken for a whole month," said another resident.

The New York City Housing Authority said cameras in the elevators show the elevator was working before, during and after the incident.

NYCHA said it will cooperate with the Department of Buildings in the investigation.
