Women marched through Upper Manhattan’s streets in bridal gowns Friday to remember those killed by domestic violence.
The eighth annual Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk made its way from Washington Heights to East Harlem.
Participants said they walk to raise awareness for women who may not realize they are victims.
"I've been a victim and not known that I've been a victim of domestic violence. That's why I think education and outreach and political attention to this issue is just so important," said a marcher.
The march is named after Gladys Ricart who was killed by an ex-boyfriend on her wedding day in 1999.
