Police have arrested five gun trafficking suspects in Brooklyn and Queens.

Officials say undercover officers bought nearly 40 weapons from them, including assault rifles, sawed-off shotguns, semi-automatic handguns and revolvers, most of which originated out-of-state.

Police said one of the recovered weapons was used in a nightclub shooting in Queens, although there's no evidence any of the suspects were connected to it.

In a Wednesday press conference in Manhattan's One Police Plaza, Commissioner Ray Kelly commended the officers for their work.

"The work of the firearms investigation unit is some of the most dangerous in all of law enforcement,” said Kelly. “The suspects come armed and they know our undercovers are coming with cash. Fortunately these undercover buys were accomplished without incident."

Four of the suspects were arraigned Wednesday and one is awaiting extradition from Florida.

They all face charges of conspiracy and firearms sale, which carry sentences of up to 15 years in jail.
