President George W. Bush is in the city, where he will make his farewell address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg was among the many dignitaries waiting to greet the president when Marine One touched down in the city Monday afternoon.
The two spoke about the turmoil on Wall Street, and the president thanked Bloomberg for his ideas on how to curb the current meltdown of the financial markets.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is also scheduled to address the U.N on Tuesday. His country's nuclear ambitions are a significant concern to the global community.
On Monday, Jewish groups held a rally protesting against Ahmadinejad, who has questioned whether the Holocaust ever happened. The rally was supposed to feature Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Senator Hillary Clinton. But organizers uninvited all politicians, after Clinton pulled out of the event upon learning that Palin would also be in attendance.
Palin will also be in the city this week, where she'll try to quiet those who say she has little foreign policy knowledge.
Palin is scheduled to meet with several dignitaries including Afghani President Hamid Karzai.
