Fire officials were called to three city schools Thursday after pepper spray was released.
The first incident was at the A. Philip Randolph Campus High School in Harlem, where officials say a 14-year-old was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with chest pains.
The Department of Education said 16 other students were evaluated at the school after complaining of burning eyes and itchy throats.
Just minutes later, the fire department responded to a school in Chelsea after a 14-year-old sprayed pepper spray in the cafeteria.
The DOE said the student at the Chelsea Career and Technical Education High School was arrested.
Five students were transported to St Vincent's Hospital and one refused medical attention.
Fire officials also had to respond to St. Francis Prep School in Queens Thursday morning, where a student brought pepper spray to school which released into the air.
According to the assistant principal, the student claimed it fell out of her purse and discharged.
Eleven people were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
Police said the 14-year-old was taken into custody after the incident.
