As the temperature dips this winter, low-income New Yorkers will get some help to turn up the heat.

The federal government has released $120 million nationwide in home heating aid to address rising energy costs.

New York will receive $12 million, which will be distributed throughout the state.

The bipartisan bill was signed by 52 members of Congress, including Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Vito Fossella.

Schumer applauded the bill, saying, “Nobody should have to choose between putting food on the table and heating their homes.”

An energy assistance advocacy group said it will cost about $500 more per household to heat a home with oil then it did last winter.
