Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of Nixzaliz Santiago, who is accused of murdering her seven-year-old daughter Nixzmary Brown.
Nixzaliz Santiago faces charges of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Nixzmary died in January 2006, after what prosecutors say was a long pattern of abuse.
Santiago's trial was originally set to begin September 3rd, but was pushed back to the 15th after the prosecution asked for more time.
Nixzmary's stepfather, Cesar Rodriguez, was acquitted of murder, but convicted of manslaughter in the girl's death. He was sentenced to 25 years behind bars.
