Senator Hillary Clinton called for an embargo of Serbian basketball Wednesday, to help bring back a fugitive Binghamton athlete who is currently on the lam in Serbia.
Former university basketball player Miladin Kovacevic is charged with felony assault for allegedly beating fellow student and Brooklyn resident Bryan Steinhauer unconscious back in May.
Steinhauer suffered serious injuries.
Officials say Kovacevic fled to his native country after the attack and is currently playing basketball for a local Serbian club.
Clinton challenged four major sponsors of the Serbian Basketball Federation who do business in the United States. She wants them to sever ties with the organization as long as Kovacevic is allowed to continue to playing basketball there.
U.S. authorities ordered the athlete to return to New York to face prosecution, but so far Serbia has refused to allow extradition.
