Police are looking for a man suspected of stealing the tops of 87 coin-operated parking meters, after they were tipped off by his mother.

The mother of above-pictured Maurice Mizrahi, 34, alerted police Wednesday that the damaged parking meters were in the basement of her home on East First Street in Homecrest.

Authorities estimate each meter can hold up to $70 in change, and that the thefts had been going on for almost a year.

"He removed the tops, others he removed from the ground, poles included. He was able to either drill into or cut the side, accessing the coin-operated slot, removing the money," said Captain George Mastrokostas of the NYPD.

They say Mizrahi had been arrested at least seven times before for stealing parking meters.

Anyone with any information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or send a text to CRIMES and enter TIP577.
