Police shot and wounded a teenager in Brooklyn Friday after they say he first opened fire on them.

Officers responding to a 911 call early this morning say they found a Darryl Jones, 19, with a gun on Central Avenue near Moffat Street in Bushwick.

Officers say Jones refused calls to drop his gun and fired off several shots at them. That's when officers returned fire, wounding the teen. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital.

Police believe Jones was involved in an earlier shootout, where a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and Sophia Gonzalez, 43, was shot twice in the chest. Both were taken to the hospital.

"There was a party at a garage on the street. There was a dispute that emanated at that party," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. "The woman who rented the store, the garage, actually closed the shudders of the party. The dispute then spilled out onto the street."

It's not clear if the 17-year-old was the intended target, but police say Gonzalez was an innocent bystander. Her son, John Gonzalez, said he was shocked to hear his mother had been hurt.

"I didn't even know she got shot until I was told. Somebody came around the corner and said my mother got shot," said John Gonzalez. "I didn't believe it until I came around the corner and see her holding her chest. And I ran to her and saw she was shot. I couldn't believe it."

Police say a 9-millimeter handgun, pictured above, was discovered at the scene.

"That could happen to anybody here. To me or one of my family members," said a Bushwick resident.

There have been 25 shootings in the 83rd Precinct so far this year, down slightly from 27 by the same time last year.

By Friday night, it was determined that the shot victims are all expected to survive their injuries.
