Volunteers Combine Charity Forces In East Harlem
Hundreds of volunteers came together in East Harlem in Manhattan for a massive charity event Tuesday.
They planted flowers for seniors, painted murals for a school, created healthy cookbooks and made cat toys for homeless felines.
Organizers say the event gathered adults and children from all different backgrounds and organizations together under one roof.
"The adult volunteers are talking and having open conservations with the kids about the importance of service volunteering, giving back, that kind of thing. Then it becomes kind of a way of life," said an organizer.
"It feels good because we are making it for people who don't have anything,” said a child.
“I got the chance to make people feel healthier," said another.
Organizers say about two dozen service projects were completed.
