Bob Dylan Plays In Prospect Park
About 7,000 fans went to Prospect Park for Bob Dylan's Brooklyn debut, which began at 7 p.m.
Dylan fans of all ages lined up early in the morning hoping to get tickets to the sold-out show at the Prospect Park Bandshell. The bandshell holds 2,000 people on its plaza and 5,000 on the lawn.
It was the first time Dylan performed in the borough and his first time in the city since playing the Beacon Theater in 2005.
Tuesday night's show was part of the Celebrate Brooklyn annual concert series.
"It's my neighborhood, it's outside, he's never played here before, and he's had this long career, and it just seems sort of like an event to me. And I didn't want to miss it," said one ticketholder.
"I've traveled, I've slept in the back of a van, went through all sorts of hell to see him, and now I just woke up and hopped on my bike and now I'm here," added another.
"It's just very important because, you know he's getting a lot older now – not certain how much longer he'll be on tour, or how many more shows he'll be doing in the area," added a third. "So yeah, I feel it's very important that I see him today."
Fans were eager to welcome Dylan back to the city where he developed his distinctive style.
"I'm coming to relax and hopefully hear a great show. I haven't seen Dylan since Woodstock," said a fan.
"I'm an 'old Dylan' fan, but I'm all right with his new stuff. I'm assuming he's going to play a lot of it," said another.
"Bob Dylan is here, so I'm here. I mean, is there anything else to say?" said a third.
Those who scored tickets to the event were told to leave the lawn chairs, beverages, coolers, and video cameras at home.
