Suspects In Beating Of Brooklyn Student To Be Released

By: NY1 News

Two men allegedly involved in the beating of a Brooklyn student are set to be freed from an upstate jail, while the prime suspect in the case remains at large in Serbia.

The Bosnian men are charged in the attack on 22-year-old Bryan Steinhauer during a bar fight in Binghamton in May.

They are scheduled to be released Wednesday, August 13, but will be monitored electronically.

The prime suspect in the case, Miladin Kovacevic, escaped to Serbia while out on bail.

U.S. officials have ordered him to return and face criminal charges, but Serbia refused to extradite him.

Earlier this week Steinhauer was said to be slowly coming out of a coma, but his full recovery is not certain.

He is said to recognize friends and family but cannot speak or walk.
