The former college basketball player accused of beating a Brooklyn man into a coma has signed on to play ball in his native Serbia.
Belgrade's private news service says Miladin Kovacevic, 20, signed a contract to play for a local basketball team in a Serbian regional league.
Kovacevic was arrested and put in a Broome County jail for several weeks after investigators say he beat Bryan Steinhauer into a coma during a bar fight in Binghamton in May.
Kovacevic fled to Serbia after officials say a Serbian diplomat posted bail and illegally gave him a passport.
Steinhauer is still in the hospital.
U.S. officials are trying to convince the Serbian government to extradite Kovacevic so he can face assault charges in the United States.
