The grandson of a Brooklyn church's pastor died Saturday night from injuries sustained during a car accident the night before that critically injured the pastor and left his wife dead.
A hospital official in Pennsylvania confirmed that D.J. Wright, 14, died from his injuries. The teen was the grandson of Reverend Timothy Wright [pictured above], who is the pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Crown Heights.
As of Sunday night, the reverend was still in critical condition.
Pennsylvania State Police say the car Wright, his wife and co-pastor, Betty, and their grandson were in was struck on Interstate 80 in Greene Township, PA Friday night by a driver going the wrong way.
Betty Wright was killed in the crash, along with the driver of the other car, 44-year-old John Pick. An autopsy is being performed to determine if Pick was drunk.
The Wrights were on their way home from a gospel convention in Detroit, Michigan at the time of the accident.
Wright has been with the church for more than 18 years. He is also known for gospel hits such as "Who's on The Lord's Side" and "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus...," which was written by his wife. Wright also worked for local radio station 1190 WLIB.
