The city is stepping up to help pay for the funeral of the 49-year-old woman who collapsed and died on the floor of Kings County Hospital last month.

Esmin Green's death was captured on the hospitals security camera two weeks ago. Officials say she was on the floor for more than an hour, and that a worker ignored her.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday that the family reached out for help.

"They specifically asked if the city could pay for the funeral service and related costs," said Bloomberg. "Paying for the funeral of the indigent is something we can use government money for, and Linda Gibbs, deputy mayor of Health and Human Services, has worked with the Human Resources Administration to arrange it."

Bloomberg says developer Forrest City Ratner has offered to pick up the tab for Green's family to fly to the city from Jamaica for her funeral.

Six hospital employees have been fired since the incident.
