An elderly woman died Wednesday after being hit by a car in Queens.

The accident happened shortly before 2 p.m., when police say the 76-year-old victim was crossing the intersection of 70th Street and Queens Boulevard in Woodside when she was struck.

Those who work in the area say it is not the first time an accident has occurred at that
intersection.

"It happens here all the time. We see accidents all the time over here," said Michael Lei, who had called 911.

When asked if something should be done to prevent such accidents in the area, Lei said, “Not really. They tried for years. I don't think they can do anything to slow the cars down."

"She was laying on the floor, blood out of her ears and one side of her head," said an eyewitness. "I tried to see what happened, then I touched her pulse. She wasn't breathing that much."

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the car remained on the scene and police suspected no criminality as of Wednesday night.
