Families and friends mourned the loss of a Staten Island crane operator and Bronx construction worker in Friday's fatal crane collapse in the Upper East Side.
The operator of the collapsed crane, 30-year-old Donald Leo of Staten Island, died at the scene.
Fellow construction workers and residents of his New Dorp neighborhood described him as friendly and well-liked. They say he was planning to get married in the coming weeks.
"It's a horror, considering that boy was so young -- that this should happen," said Leo’s neighbor Gene Boitano.
Fellow construction worker Ramadan Kurtij, 37, a Bronx resident, died a few hours after the collapse.
Relatives and friends of Kurtij in Bronxdale say he'd worked in construction for two years, and they are trying to come to grips with what happened.
"He was a really nice person, he has a lot of friends. He has good friends to stay with him. He's the best guy, and everybody is upset," said Beke Nikqi, Kurtij’s uncle.
