The New York Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit today on behalf of someone who was subjected to a "stop and frisk" by the NYPD, claiming racial profiling by the officers involved.

The lawsuit lists New York Post reporter Leonardo Blair, a Jamaican-born black man, as the sole plaintiff. The city, the police commissioner, and Officers William Castillo and Eric Reynolds are named as defendants.

Blair says he was stopped and frisked by police last November as he walked from his car to his home in the Bronx and taken to a police precinct cell.

This comes just days after a report was released showing a dramatic increase in the number of stop and frisks conducted so far this year. The report also showed that an inordinate amount of blacks and Latinos were stopped by police.

The NYCLU says that 90 percent of the time the people stopped have done nothing wrong and they say the practice is racially biased.

The police say the stop and frisks have been a key tool in driving down crime.
