A 13-year-old Bronx boy was arrested Tuesday for having a gun in school.
The Department of Education said the student brought an unloaded semi-automatic to Intermediate School 318 in the Bronx.
Police arrested the student after a parent called the school to tell them about the gun.
"Maybe he had some trouble with a child or maybe he just wanted to show that he's big and bad. You know, you never know. You don't know what's in these childrens' mind anymore," said parent Teresa Johnson.
"It's sad they're bringing unloaded guns - guns period. It doesn't matter - knives, guns, anything that hurt. These kids are supposed to come to school and learn, it's not about carrying guns or drugs or things like that," said parent Sandy Gibson.
Police were on hand as students were dismissed from school.
DOE officials said administrative action against the student is pending.
