A man who allegedly stole a Con Edison truck near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx after shooting his girlfriend killed himself while police surrounded the vehicle Tuesday night.
The shooting occurred shortly after the Yankees won their first home season game in their 85-year-old stadium, and fans were streaming out of the arena.
Police say just before 10 p.m. yesterday the 45-year-old man shot his 39-year-old girlfriend near 150th Street and Cortlandt Avenue. According to police, the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The man then allegedly approached a Con Edison truck and forced a worker out of the vehicle before driving away toward Yankee Stadium.
According to police, the man drove about ten blocks to 161st Street and the Macombs Dam Bridge before hitting a police patrol car. He then got stuck in traffic from Yankee fans leaving last night's game.
As officers surrounded the vehicle, the man shot himself in the head.
