Travel in and around Times Square has returned to normal after an explosion Thursday morning apparently aimed at military recruiters. NY1's Milanee Kapadia filed the following report.

Police say no one was injured when a small explosion rocked the military recruiting station Times Square at around 3:45 a.m. Thursday. However, the front window and door of the station were shattered by the blast from what was described as a "low-yield explosive device."

Police immediately set up a frozen zone, blocking cars from entering the area. The subway was also affected, with trains passing passed through the Times Square station without stopping.

"The E train was running on the R line, and it wasn't stopping at 42nd Street, so I got off at 49th Street and walked over," said one commuter.

The NYPD and FBI are trying to figure out who set off the bomb and what kind of explosive was used. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said it was packed into a metal ammunition box.

Kelley also says one witness described seeing a person with a hood on a bicycle carrying a backpack and acting suspiciously around the time of the explosion.

"[The witness] did not see individual's face, was not able to give us a complete description," said Kelly. "But, again, we are looking for any additional witnesses. We are looking at video cameras in the area."

Police are looking into whether this incident has links to two others. In October, two small explosive devices were tossed over a fence at the Mexican consulate on Manhattan's East Side. Police said they believed someone on a bicycle threw the devices. In 2005, there was a similar incident at the British consulate, also on the East Side.

The mayor said this particular act insults the men and women in the armed forces.

"Whoever the coward was that committed this disgraceful act on our city will be found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "We will not tolerate such attacks nor will we let them destroy our freedom to live peacefully and safely."
