Months after the FDNY was criticized for its handling of the deadly fire at the former Deutsche Bank building, the department is altering its inspection schedule.

Though city regulations call for buildings under construction or demolition to be inspected every 15 days, the Fire Department is decreasing inspections on smaller projects — under 75 feet — to once every 30 days.

The move comes after investigators determined the former Deutsche Bank tower had not been inspected since 2006. Officials blamed lack of time, saying it was impossible for crews to check construction sites and still perform firefighting duties.

The FDNY says the guideline change will make inspections more realistic.
