The Malian immigrant who lost his wife and four children in a house fire in the Bronx last March will be allowed to stay in the United States for at least another year.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service reached the decision Tuesday, which grants Mamadou Soumare deferred citizenship status.
He will be able to apply for another deferment in a year.
Soumare, an illegal immigrant, was granted temporary permission back in March to travel to his home country of Mali in West Africa to bury his family, and then return to the U.S.
