Police are still questioning the motives of a homeless man that confessed Wednesday to stabbing four people over a 12 hour period in Manhattan. NY1's Cindi Avila filed the following report.

Police believe Kenny Alexis went on a one-man crime spree, terrorizing people with a knife at four different Manhattan locations.

At this time there is no indication of anything that may have motivated him or caused him
to go off," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

The first attack happened Tuesday afternoon at around 3:30. Witnesses say Christopher McCarthy was just minding his own business on a C train at 110th street when he was stabbed. Police say Alexis confessed to the crime.

"He apparently made a statement that the individual on the C train was blocking
the doorway," said Kelly.

Witnesses say that simply isn't true. Either way, it's an incident that left the Texas tourist near death.

“I would say he is extremely lucky, given the location of the injury and the fact that he had to travel a considerable distance before being evaluated,” said Chief Trauma Surgeon Dr. Raymond Wedderburn. “He certainly was extremely lucky."

McCarthy's parents rushed into town from Texas.

"Chris is still very weak, but he is making great progress recovering from the wound thanks to the doctors and staff here at St. Luke's," said McCarthy's father Joseph.

The next incident happened about 12 hours later on the F train platform at Rockefeller Center. Ambrosio Castro, 30, was approached by a man, demanding his cell phone. When he didn't give it up he was stabbed but is expected to be okay. Police say the suspect in this attack matches Alexis' description.

Fast forward just 30 minutes, Alexis is accused of pulling a knife on a clerk at West Park Market near Columbus Circle. The suspect tried to steal some beer and water. He fled without harming the clerk. Police were able to link this to Alexis using a key piece of evidence.

"The knife was identified by the employee in the bodega," said Kelly.

About 45 minutes later, two Canadian tourists were stabbed in the back in Times Square. They ran to the nearby W Hotel afterwards and luckily, this time, some brave people were able to help police catch their man.

"A hotel doorman and a cab driver followed the suspect to the McDonald's restaurant across the street. Responding police officers encountered the suspect as he left McDonald's," said Kelly.

One of the Canadian tourists is still in the hospital. She's expected to be okay. The other woman has been released.

Police say Alexis is homeless. His last known address is men's shelter on 8th Avenue. They also say that he has a criminal history in Boston and New York, which includes charges of attempted assault and harassment.
