A 20-year-old man has been arrested after being treated for gunshot wounds following a firefight with officers in Brooklyn Thursday evening.

Charges are pending against Shaquille Reid, 20.

Police say they spotted Reid near Grafton and 98th Streets in Brownsville just after 6 p.m. Thursday.

They say plainclothes detectives were conducting a buy and bust operation when they noticed him pull out a handgun.

Police say the officers got out of their car and approached Reid, who then fired at them.

Police say officers returned fire, hitting Reid in the left hand and on the backside.

"When I first heard the people arguing in my house, I live on the other side, and then I heard the gunshots, I came running outside," said one resident of the neighborhood. "I thought it was my little sister. It wasn't. Then I ran back in my house, and then I came back and then I just saw the little boy, that teenager boy."

Reid was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The two police officers involved were taken to Kings County Hospital with tinnitus.

The shooting comes as the neighborhood is still dealing with the aftermath of the deadly police shooting of 16-year-old Kimani Gray.

A wake for Gray is being held Friday.
