Thousands of runners braved freezing temperatures Sunday to run in the eighth annual New York City Half Marathon.

The race stretched 13.1 miles through Manhattan.

Runners make a loop around Central Park before heading down the West Side and finishing near Wall Street.

Despite the cold, most were enthusiastic.

"We're so happy to run this together," said one person. "We're awesome."

"Unbelievable," said a second. "Ran through the city. The energy, everything, it's unbelievable."

"I feel so good," said a third. "I feel the best I've felt in my life."

This year's male winner was Wilson Kipsang, from Kenya, who finished in a little more than 61 minutes.

Leading the women was Caroline Rotich, also from Kenya, who finished in 1 hour and 9 minutes.
