A Queens man is in custody after a female police officer was allegedly pushed down a flight of stairs in the Ravenswood Houses in Astoria.

Police said the officer was conducting a home visit related to a previous domestic violence incident.

Friends of the suspect said it may have been an accident.

"What I heard, he was coming out his apartment, and when he took the stairs, the officers were coming up the stairs, and when he came out, when he opened the door, they just bumped into each other, and that's when they say that she fell," said Luz Rodriguez, a friend of the suspect.

The suspect was detained and led away in handcuffs.
