A Brooklyn landlord has been charged with murder after police say he shot and killed one of his tenants over the weekend.

The New York City Police Department says officers answered a call of shots fired Sunday at a building near Shepherd and Blake Avenues in East New York.

When they arrived, they found Luis Martinez, 51, shot in the chest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A clerk from the deli across the street tells NY1 he saw the landlord, identified as Philip Estevez, being taken away.

"I actually see the landlord covered in blood. But that's all I seen. And then the cops took him. He was always a nice guy. He was quiet - never looked like one of those guys," said the clerk.

Sources say Estevez got into a rent dispute with a female tenant and shot Martinez when he tried to intervene.
