City officials are hoping to get through to young New Yorkers about the dangers of loud music.

They say they are in the early stages of creating an ad campaign to warn of the potential for hearing loss, especially with the use of ear buds.

Newer personal music players can play for long hours at more than 100 decibels.

Experts say 85 decibels is safe.

Surveys found that teen hearing loss rose by 30 percent from 1988 to 2006.
