Mayor Michael Bloomberg was on hand to kick off the 100th Armory Show at Pier 94 on Manhattan’s West Side on Wednesday.

He reassured guests and media that art galleries, just like the rest of New York, will recover from damage from Hurricane Sandy.

"Most had insurance on the art, if not business insurance. So it hurt, but you know, once again most will survive, most will come back," Bloomberg said.

Nearly 70,000 people are expected to attend the week-long event, which showcases contemporary and modern art at more than 70 galleries throughout the city.
