It was a little harder for local drivers to top off their tanks Monday as hundreds of Getty station owners turned off their pumps in protest Monday and rallied in the Grant City section of Staten Island.

Gas station owners around the northeast protested over Getty's refusal to increase their commissions, which they said have not changed since 1996.

It forced many station owners to close or pay increasing costs out of their own pocket.

Ten stations on Staten Island were among the hundreds affected in the tri-state area.

Many station owners said they will remain closed until an agreement is reached.

NY1 reached out to Getty on Monday for comment.
