An early Sunday morning fire in Queens that left one person dead is being treated by officials as suspicious.
Firefighters were called at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a building on 95th Avenue in Richmond Hill.
It took more than 100 firefighters more than an hour to bring the fire on the second floor under control.
A 43-year-old man was pronounced dead.
Police have been conducting interviews with neighbors.
"I saw a couple of neighbors looking down the block, and they were telling me that the garage that my two vehicles were parked in was on fire," said neighbor James Penfold. "I went down there. There was flames coming right out of the windows, straight up."
The Red Cross said it provided emergency housing to two displaced families who lived on the second floor.
NY1 is told that the victim lived alone.
Fire marshals are investigating what sparked the flames.
