A man remains hospitalized after being shot in the head on a crowded street in Washington Heights.

Police say the 30-year-old's condition is described as stable.

Witnesses said that many people ran for cover in a nearby salon when shots rang out just before 7 p.m. Friday near 172nd Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue.

"We got so much scared that we just ran into the waxing room, and we couldn't get out for like five minutes," said one person at the scene."And when we came out after five minutes, the police and ambulance was already here."

"Just passing by here, seeing all the cops, and I see this, it's crazy," said another. "This is a good neighborhood. Everybody here's friendly, and to hear the news is ridiculous."

The incident remains under investigation.

There is no word on any suspects so far.
