Some officials and business leaders in Long Island City want to simplify the name of the neighborhood to "LIC," to end people from mistakenly thinking the area of Queens is located outside the city, on Long Island.

The Queens Tourism Council says travelers sometimes get thrown off on the neighborhood's location, which could have an impact on real estate and tourism.

Many residents and businesses already use the shorter version, so they believe a name change would not be too much of a stretch.

Other residents hope the name stays the way it is.

Geographically, the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn are part of Long Island.
