The man accused of killing a grandmother in a hit and run incident on Staten Island last spring pleaded guilty Friday to leaving the scene of an accident.
Authorities say Brian McGurk hit Clara Almazo in West Brighton while she was walking home from Holy Thursday mass with her grandson last April.
Witnesses say she pushed the boy out of the way before being struck.
Almazo's family filed a civil suit against McGurk, the New York Mets and a local bar.
The suit claims that McGurk drank too much during a Mets game on April 5, then continued drinking at the Nuremberger Bierhaus before getting in his car.
McGurk is set to be sentenced next month.
He faces up to three years in prison.
