Fashion Week starts on Thursday, and designers are putting the final touches on their shows. NY1's Jessica Abo stopped by Carmen Marc Valvo's showroom to see what the designer is debuting for fall. The very first dress fashion designer Carmen Marc Valvo ever made was for his sister's Barbie doll.
"At seven, I was already sketching," he says. "I was sketching dresses for women, like making designs and little things."
Over the last 35 years, the New York native has become known for his dresses and coats, bathing suits and accessories.
On Friday, he'll launch a lineup that will help every woman put her best foot forward.
"This is the first time I'm doing shoes in over a decade," Valvo says. "So it's really an enormous collection. There's 75 pieces. We've done a lot with patent leather and suede combinations, embroidered velvets. My favorite, favorite, favorite are definitely the mesh."
All of the shoes were made in Italy and took one year to design. But don't worry: if you think the heels are too high or too low, each one can be customized to fit your needs.
"We have four different layers of padding and cushioning, and also in the toe, so they're very comfortable," Valvo says.
While the hair and makeup teams prepped for Friday's show, I learned how to rock the runway in a feather-dyed silver fox piece from Valvo's fall collection.
"One foot in front of the other, and lots of attitude," Valvo says. "We love attitude."
In case you haven't heard, after five fashion seasons at NASDAQ, Carmen is taking his show to the tents at Lincoln Center. So stay tuned to see what else this icon has up his sleeve.
