Mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is running a commercial during the Super Bowl calling for background checks on gun buyers, but the ad will only be seen in the Washington, D.C. area.

The 30-second spot by Mayors Against Illegal Guns is narrated by children, with "America The Beautiful" playing in the background.

It calls on lawmakers to pass rules requiring background checks, and includes old footage of National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre saying the gun lobby group approves of the checks.

LaPierre recently told senators the NRA no longer supports background checks for all gun sales.
