Workers on Tuesday installed the first piece of the spire on One World Trade Center.
Crews hoisted the base section onto the 104th floor roof using two giant cranes.
Once complete, the top of the spire at 1,776 feet will make the building the tallest in the western hemisphere.
The Port Authority expects all 18 pieces of the spire to be in place sometime in March.
