New Program Assists Sandy Victims With Paying Heating Costs

Hurricane Sandy victims in danger of having their heat shut off can now apply for emergency assistance.
The Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP, assists low-income New Yorkers with the costs of heating their homes.
HEAP has established an emergency program for those who cannot afford to pay their heating costs due to damage from the storm.
They also offer grants to repair or replace damaged heating equipment.
Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said her office will help Hurricane Sandy victims apply.
"Anyone who's eligible, I encourage them to apply for the HEAP program because it could certainly save them a few hundred dollars during these difficult months," Malliotakis said.
