Crews are working to rescue a beached whale found in Queens Wednesday.

A local family said they found the giant marine mammal stuck in the receding tide in Breezy Point.

It's estimated to be about 60 feet long.

The family said they dumped buckets of water on the stranded animal until police, firefighters and experts arrived.

"Look, at least we tried to help it. That's all we could do," said Louis Bassolino, who found the whale.

"It just was, it was a good feeling to think that maybe we contributed something to the survival of this beautiful, beautiful animal," said Diane Bassolino, who also found the whale.

Despite the response by the family and authorities, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the whale's chances of survival are slim.
