A new study from the Centers for Disease Control shows childhood obesity may be in decline.

The CDC monitored more than 27 million kids ages 2 to 4 for more than a decade.

The resulting data showed the childhood obesity rate at just under 15 percent in 2010.

That's down from the peak of 15.2 percent in 2003. The number was around 13 percent in 1998.

There's also increased hope because many efforts to help keep kids healthy weren't in full effect for much of the study period, including reducing sugary drinks in schools.

Researchers warn that parents should remain vigilant and ensure their kids get plenty of exercise.

The study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
