According to the New York State Department of Labor, New York gained 83,500 new private-sector jobs in 2012.

The state's unemployment rate went from 8.7 percent in October to 8.3 percent in November.

Unemployment in the city also fell, from 9.2 percent to 8.8 percent.

However, the Department of Labor said the numbers were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

They say more than 29,000 jobs were lost because of the storm.
