A 62-year-old woman has died after police allege she was attacked with a pipe by her grandson.
The New York City Police Department said the incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday inside 680 Saint Nicholas Avenue in Hamilton Heights.
Police said Dominic Anderson, 27, was beating his grandmother, Beverly Holmes, 62, with a pipe.
Authorities said Anderson later attacked responding officers who tried to stop him.
Holmes was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A woman at the scene, who identified herself as the suspect's mother, said her son is mentally ill.
"My son got psychiatric problems so, and what not, he think that my family doing voodoo on him. My mother, he think my mother was doing voodoo on him," the woman told NY1.
One officer was hit in the head.
He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in stable condition.
Five other officers were treated for minor injuries.
Anderson is charged with attempted murder and resisting arrest.
