The Coast Guard is cleaning up an oil spill in the waters of the Kill Van Kull off Staten Island.

On Friday night a Marine Transport crew noticed oil leaking into the water near Mariner's Harbor as they were transporting it between two barges.

They attempted to contain the leak before the Coast Guard was called in for further investigation and cleanup.

Officials aren't sure how much spilled but they say the barge's tank was holding about 147,000 gallons of fuel.

They also say some oil reached the Verrezanno Bridge.

All waterways are still open as the clean-up continues.
