An Orthodox Jewish rabbi is recovering after a liquid was thrown in his face on a Brooklyn street, burning his eyes and face.

Nuchem Rosenberg, 62, says a man walked up to him on Roebling Street in Williamsburg around 12 p.m. Tuesday and tossed the liquid.

Police say the substance may have been bleach.

Sources say the two men know each other.

Rosenberg was treated at a local hospital.

He has spoken out against child sex abuse in the Satmar Hasidic sect, and claims his attacker is connected to another person in the community he has accused of abusing children.

Police say the attack is not connected to the case of Nechemya Weberman, a Hasidic counselor convicted Monday of sexually abusing a young girl.

Tensions have been running high in the Hasidic community since that verdict came down.
