It's called the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or D-SNAP.

It's a one-time benefit for people living in the hardest-hit zip codes, who aren't already receiving food assistance.

Eligibility for residents in those areas is calculated by looking at their disaster related expenses and whether the amount they're spending puts them significantly below the federal poverty line.

Those eligible will receive an EBT card that can be used to buy food.

"The application process should be fairly rapid," Human Resources Administration Commissioner Robert Doar said. "t will only take an hour or so once you come into our office and we see your application - and we review it. But the federal government does require that we see face-to-face the applicant for the program."

Applications will be accepted from Dec. 12 to Dec. 18.
